This builds on the politically motivated cancellation of grants at NIH, NSF and other federal agencies earlier this year and the attacks by the administration on American universities.<\/p>\n<p>This movement away from pure peer review of grants\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/government\/science-research-policy\/2025\/08\/25\/scotus-ruling-has-bleak-implications-researchers\">is likely to hold<\/a>, given recent federal court decisions allowing the administration\u2019s cuts from earlier this year to go forward (e.g.,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/24pdf\/25a103_kh7p.pdf\">here<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/01\/nyregion\/nsf-trump-stem-research-cuts.html\">here<\/a>).
