However, with both tech companies and rightsholders dissatisfied with the draft, the\u00a0<strong>EU AI Office has postponed the adoption deadline to August 2025<\/strong>, citing a need to \u201cprioritise extended feedback cycles as requested by all stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A broad coalition of rightsholders, including STM, raised serious\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stm-assoc.org\/stm-joins-coalition-of-eu-rightsholders-to-reject-third-draft-of-gpai-code-of-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>concerns about the latest draft<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(published in March), warning that it could\u00a0<strong>undermine protections<\/strong>\u00a0already established in existing legislation. Several governments\u2014such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultura.gob.es\/dam\/jcr:98b14ff9-0ecd-42ed-b5df-e30a486a1551\/250430-carta-ai-and-copyright.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a>\u2014have also called for a comprehensive revision of the Code before adoption.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-25\/trump-administration-pressures-europe-to-reject-ai-rulebook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>U.S. administration has aligned more closely with tech sector<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0interests. A letter from the U.S. Mission to the EU to the AI Office acknowledged improvements in the draft but urged further changes to increase flexibility, reduce prescriptiveness, and better protect trade secrets.<\/p>\n<p>Details on the next opportunity for formal comment submission have not yet been announced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Code of Practice outlining obligations for general-purpose AI providers was due to be finalised by 1 May.
