STM\u2019s Board tasked the Social Responsibility Committee (SRC) to develop responsible business practices and positively contribute to society through publishing. As leaders in research publishing, we have a responsibility to measure, benchmark and take actionable steps towards greater diversity in our own organisations and across the industry. Starting first at STM\u2019s own doorstep, the SRC established a Diversity & Inclusion Task and Finish group (D&I TFG) to measure STM\u2019s current demographics, identify gaps and recommend actions. A survey was sent to the 444-strong STM \u2018workforce\u2019 of publishing leaders and experts from all boards, groups and committees, with questions along multiple dimensions informed by comparable publishing organisation surveys. The survey response rate of 47% provides confidence in the results yet recognizes the potential for non-response bias.<\/p>\n
