STM has joined a coalition of authors, performers, publishers, and other rightsholders across Europe to raise significant concerns about the third draft of the EU AI Act\u2019s GPAI Code of Practice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"The current draft fails to meet the objectives of the AI Act and contravenes established EU copyright law. Rather than creating a strong foundation for lawful and transparent AI development, the Code weakens the tools rightsholders need to protect their work\u2014and undermines the essential trust upon which research and innovation rely.<\/p>\n

As the global trade association for academic and professional publishers, STM remains committed to responsible, transparent, and collaborative approaches to AI regulation. The coalition urges the Chairs, Vice-Chairs and the AI Office to revise the Code substantially. As the joint statement makes clear: no Code is better than a broken one.<\/strong><\/p>\n
